The menu does stray from a traditional вЂcue shack by offering other southern favorites like fried catfish, fried green tomatoes, fried oysters, and a supposedly-amazing pimento cheese burger, but I canвЂ™t personally comment on any of that (save the fried green tomatoes, which are excellent), as I stick to the вЂcue. I did try some fried asparagus, which was good, but thatвЂ™s not exactly a вЂcue staple.

The mac вЂn cheese was a pretty popular side, but I didnвЂ™t partake due to my intolerance of dairy, but IвЂ™m told itвЂ™s really good here, if youвЂ™re in to that sort of thing. The lone hold-out ordered a salad (really, Princess Leia?) and I wonвЂ™t even pretend to justify her decision. Everyone save one had either the brisket, the pork, or both for their meal. The rest of my party also thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The fried okra and sugar snap peas were both good, as have other sides IвЂ™ve had their previously, and they have a pretty nice selection. The wait staff does bring out corn bread immediately upon seating, which is a great (and delicious) touch.

The sides are good, though IвЂ™ll echo previous reviews in saying IвЂ™m disappointed that they donвЂ™t serve hushpuppies. IвЂ™m no beef barbecue expert, and I havenвЂ™t eaten NEARLY enough вЂcue in Texas, but to date, I would say Smoke on the Water is the best brisket IвЂ™ve had. If I could only order one meat at Smoke on the Water, this would be it. The brisket also doesnвЂ™t really need sauce, but IвЂ™d recommend it. The brisket comes sliced a little thinner than IвЂ™m used to seeing, which I actually like. Smoke on the Water is probably the only вЂcue joint IвЂ™ve ever been to where I think the brisket is better than the pork. My personal favorite is a spicy vinegar based sauce, but you can also choose from SC mustard, KC sweet, and a house red sauce. You can definitely eat it without adding any sauce, but the sauce definitely enhances the flavor. The pulled pork has a great smoke flavor, is tender, and not dry at all. I would definitely recommend these wings to anyone.ДЇor my main course, I had the combo platter with brisket and pulled pork with sides of fried okra and sugar snap peas. You can definitely taste the smoke and thereвЂ™s a noticeable kick in the back. However, they are still moist and are really, really good. The wings are marinated, then smoked, but are not sauced.

The wings come out whole, instead of split, as wings are traditionally served. So while the atmosphere isnвЂ™t exactly like your good ole southern barbecue, the food definitely is.ДЇor starters, we had an order of the smoked wings. While this is certainly nice, itвЂ™s not exactly my style вЂ“ especially for a вЂcue restaurant. The inside of Smoke on the Water doesnвЂ™t exactly scream вЂњbarbecue.вЂќ ItвЂ™s not well lit, it has a nice, classy bar, and it just has the appearance of a more upscale restaurant. If this were our restaurant, we would definitely be counting our blessings!! We will definitely be back.Generally, I really enjoy sitting outside at Smoke on the Water, but it was nearing 100 degrees outside, so my party decided we would eat inside in the A/C. We're restaurant people, so it isn't often a server lives up to our expectations, but this girl was amazing.especially for an off day like Sunday. The server (who's name was Daryl-ask for her!) was nice without being smarmy, super efficient, anticipated our needs immediately and somehow made the time to bring us every last cup of ketchup we asked for. We asked if it would be possible to sit by a window, as we had out-of-towners with us, and the host and server promptly brought us to the huge picture window in the front of the restaurant and pushed three tables together as if we were VIPs. Having said all that, what was a huge surprise was the service: PERFECTION! Although the restaurant was busy, our party of six was accommodated right away. The presentation was sloppy at times, and the appetizers were a bit of a fail (deep fried asparagus should not require a steak knife), but all in all waaay better than congealed Eggs Benedict. The Sunday drink specials were an extra treat which we enjoyed equally. However, the food tasted fresh and the barbecue was very tasty. It's a good bet on Sundays, the head chef is home with her/his family, so we weren't expecting much. We had walked around for an hour looking for a nice place with a decent city view that wasn't serving a questionable 'brunch buffet'.
